Tequeños, Venezuelan cultural heritage

Tequeño is a traditional Venezuelan food, it is one of the main appetizers in Venezuelan parties. It is a food made with wheat flour dough and white cheese, then fried, resulting in this popular Venezuelan appetizer, an icon of the country's gastronomy that emerged at the end of the 14th century, in Los Teques.

In recent years it has become remarkably popular in the world, it has been declared a Cultural Heritage of Venezuela on Thursday, April 20. This was announced by the Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, who signed the certificate of registration as an Asset of National Interest in the Registry of Venezuelan Cultural Heritage. This inscription is a recognition of its value and relevance in the gastronomic identity of the country. This delicacy was recently ranked among the top 50 best-rated cheese plates in the world. In the ranking of the famous gastronomic guide Taste Atlas was ranked 18th. In 2021, the Organization of Venezuelans around the World, as well as many other compatriots, declared October 21 as International Day of theTequeño. This, with the idea of defending a typical meal of the country, on a date that coincides with the founding of Los Teques, the Miranda city where it was created.
