National S'mores Day

S'mores are one of the most popular desserts in North America and are pretty much the quintessential camping treat. In fact, it is estimated that in North America more than 15 million kilos of marshmallows are roasted over the fire each year.

Traditional S'mores are made with graham crackers, melted chocolate and gooey toasted marshmallows, all in a small sandwich. The first recorded version of the recipe is found in the 1927 publication of Tramping and Trailing with the Girl Scouts. Although the Girl Scouts were not the first to make s'mores, Girl Scout groups describe them in their reports as early as 1925. S'mores Day was created several years ago to celebrate this sticky treat, and is sponsored by the Girl Scouts. National Association of Pastry Chefs.
